Meet Jake and Mitchell: Greenville Zoo's Newest Residents

There are two new faces at the Greenville Zoo, and we are excited to officially introduce them.

Meet Jake and Mitchell, our young red river hogs.

Native to the forests and savannas of Central and West Africa, red river hogs are known for their distinctive reddish coats, darker facial markings, and strong foraging behaviors. The pair are now beginning to explore their surroundings as they adjust to their new environment at the Zoo.

Jake and Mitchell were named by Kim and Jim Wanner, generous supporters of the Greenville Zoo, in honor of their sons. As the names were chosen, it quickly became clear which hog was which. Jake has taken a steadier approach to settling in, while Mitchell has already shown a knack for keeping our animal care team on their toes. We are grateful to the Wanners for this thoughtful contribution and their continued support of the Greenville Zoo.

Jake and Mitchell’s arrival mark an exciting addition to the Zoo, and we look forward to guests getting to know them as they continue to settle into their new home.
